Marek

bisquine

"Every boat begins with a dream. On the coast of France a painter named Marek had a dream, a kind of vision, which he transposed onto canvas. He dreamed and painted, and a few weeks later the picture began to smell of tar and barnacles, fish and oysters, seat and flax. What he saw on his canvas was a living bisquine, a little ship that could be touched and sailed, and a vessel that had to constructed at whatever cost." from La Bisquine Cancalaise by Harald Mertes, the Nautical Quarterly, Summer1990, number 50.

Marek is a major participant of the UltraMarine Festival. He is bringing his works of art to share with us his love of the boats, the sea and those mariner's who lives are so intertwined with the sea. We are so privileged to have him come.

He shows internationally, in the major cities of Europe: Danzig, Falmouth, Hamburg, Amsterdam and Paris as well as many salons in France. Marek has a book published of his works, "Gens de Mer" that shows his sensitivity to those individuals who work and live by the sea.
